Winter Weather

Bad News: Our first day of practice at Vesper is canceled due to the school closure.

Good News: Now you have more time to shop at the Spirit store for your Notre Dame cold weather gear! It closes tonight at midnight, so get your order in today! https://ndacademy.boathousegear.com/

Despite the current trend, all previous evidence indicates that eventually winter will end and spring sunshine will return to the banks of the Schuylkill. But until that happens it will be very cold and very dark during our practices. You will not be permitted to row or run without the proper cold weather attire. This doesn't require that you buy a whole new wardrobe, simply that you plan accordingly and master the art of layering.

Here are some tips of how to dress so you're ready all practice conditions.

Bottom:
Layer 1: Uni or short spandex
Layer 2: Long spandex
Layer 3: Sweat pants
Bring: Extra Long spandex

Top:
Layer 1: dry wick shirt (short or long)
Layer 2: Long sleeve shirt (preferably not cotton - under armor or spandex is best)
Layer 3: Boathouse Jacket or other rain/wind breaker
Bring: T-shirt (can be cotton), Sweatshirt or fleece

Head and Feet:
Winter Hat
Ear warmers/head band
Wool Socks
Poggies (if you have them) -

Bring a full change of clothing for after practice.

When packing your bag, keep in mind that cotton is not the best option for our sport. Once it gets even a little wet, it is very cold and can be potentially dangerous. Dry-wick items and spandex are a much better option.
