Senior Slide Show 2014

A big thank you to all of the senior parents for their efforts to
keep NDA Rowing strong and growing over the past four years, and a
special thanks to Mr. Bethel for putting together this fantastic senior
video!

Congratulations Seniors, you will be greatly missed!

SRAAs, Varsity Banquet, and Captains

For those who weren't able to make it out to SRAA Nationals last weekend, Notre Dame Varsity 2x secured a bronze medal, after an impressive showing across two days of racing. In the grand final Kelly and Maria dueled it out with Conestoga before executing a crushing sprint to secure their place on the podium and make it known that Stoga era is coming to a close!

You can watch the live stream replay here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yfSRT6uf3M&list=UUv-GR7pR4WtmP59kjLRY-qw
The grand final for the Varsity Women's 2x begins at 5:36:00 into the full stream. NDA is in lane 5.

A few important reminders:

Sports Banquet:
The Varsity Sports Dinner will be held in the Amy Willard Gym at 6pm on Monday June 2nd. There will be an overview of the season, the awarding of varsity letters and JV certificates, and the presentation of the Varsity Coach's Award and Most Improved Award.

Please sign up as soon. Registration.

Captains:
There will be a short team meeting prior to the banquet to elect captains and talk about summer and fall rowing options. Plan to meet at the Launfal building at 5:15pm. If you cannot attend, please let me know ASAP so you can submit your nominations and vote for captain via email or text.

Stotesbury Saturday: Semi-Finals Cancelled; Finals TBD

Unfortunately the Semi-finals are cancelled due to high water flow and debris on the river. Another meeting will be held at 11am to determine the fate of the finals.

City Championships are predicted to be held on schedule, and with yesterday's showing in the time trials I expect a fast and fun day for Notre Dame.

Rowers who did not compete on Friday May 17th are required to go for 25min run or a 40min bike before noon on Saturday. I apologize for any confusion, I will continue to post any new information as soon as possible. Continue to check the Stotesbury website for the most up to date information.

Saturday Stotesbury: Weather Update

A decision will be made at 7am regarding Saturday racing.

The river crested earlier then anticipated so hopefully the racing won't be effected later this morning or this afternoon. Regardless, expect fast conditions today and tomorrow. At this point I don't have any more information then you do. I will let you know as soon as I hear anything.

Check the Stotesbury Cup website or following @StotesRegatta on twitter for the fastest updates.

The following crews advanced to the Semi-finals:
LTWT2X
JV4X
V2X
V4X
V1X

Plan on arriving at the posted time until told otherwise. Lightweights plan to arrive at 7:30am until I can find out more info about your rescheduled semi-final.

City Championships: Information and Schedule

Note: Practice on Thursday May 15th will be from 4:00-6:00pm. The bus will depart Notre Dame at 3:30pm.

City Championships is our most important race of the season and our qualifier for SRAA Nationals later this month. While Stotesbury is a big and exciting race, it isn't nearly as important as Cities and thus it is important that we not overlook it as we head into a long weekend of racing. We are MUCH faster then we were the last time we lined up against the Flick schools and this is our opportunity to battle it out to the medal dock!

Below are the line-ups and schedule for Cities. If you have any questions or concerns about your spot in the boat, feel free to come talk to me at practice.

Per usual, everyone is expected to remain at the course until all of the racing is finished.

The entire team has been cleared from school on Friday May 17th so if you're not racing you're encouraged to come out and cheer your teammates on.

Championship Week: Stotesbury Cup Regatta & Philadelphia City Championships

Championship week is upon us and with it lots of excitement and lots of nerves. As we touched on late last week, we have begun to decrease the volume of work we are doing at practice, while increasing the intensity of our efforts.

Think of it as if you're finishing up a painting that you started in January. You've done the lion share of the work, now it's time to edit and fine tune your creation into it's strongest final form. Your training is no different. Since January you've been strengthening your bodies, increasing your fitness, and training your focus. The time for work is done, and has been done well.

As we move into the refining process be proud of the blood, sweat, and tears you've endure this season and be eager and excited to show off all the fruits of your labor. Take pride it what you've created by remaining focused and optimistic both on and off the water this week.

The practice schedule for the week is as follows:

Monday-Thursday: 5:30pm-7:30pm
Friday: Stotesbury Cup (off for crews not racing at Stotes)
Saturday: Stotesbury Cup (practice @ 7:30am for crews not racing  at Stotes)
Sunday: City Championships
Monday: Off

There are no excused absences this week. If it's not already on the conflict sheet you are expected to be at practice. An unexcused absence may result in your removal from your race line up. No exceptions.

City Championships Schedule

The full schedule for City Championships is posted below.
Most events have a time trial heat in the morning with the top 6 boats advancing to the afternoon finals. The N2x, JV1x, and V4x are straight finals.

If you advance to the finals you will be expected to stay off your feet and out of the sun to preserve your energy for the second race. Depending on the time of your heat this might require you to stay at Vesper in the interim. Be prepared to do so by bringing healthy food, changes of clothes, and something to read.

Rowers that fail to advance are expected to stay at the course to cheer their teammates on until all racing is over (6:00pm).

Please note that the line-ups and equipment assignments are always subject to change.

City Championships is the first real race of the season and thus our opportunity to put all of our hard work to the test. You've done the physical preparation, now is the time to mentally prepare. For some of you this means spending time thinking about the race and reviewing the race plan with your boat mates. For others this means the opposite! Figure out what you need to do to maximize excitement and focus while minimizing nerves and anxiety. As always spending some time meditating is recommended.
